The Department of Sociology offers a thesis and non-thesis program leading to a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Sociology and a thesis-based Ph.D. program. The program of study for the candidates in M.A. and Ph.D. programs is prepared to suit the individual student’s needs and interests.
Graduate student enrollment in the department is at a level that provides flexibility and extensive student-faculty interaction. Faculty research areas are:

Scholarships and Funding for the Sociology Programs at University of Saskatchewan
Scholarships are funding for the program are awarded to successful candidates. Note that applicants are not required to submit separate applications for scholarships or funding. Applicants who meet the admission requirement and are admitted into the graduate program will be automatically considered for funding.
Although the scholarship amount is not stated, research indicates that students are awarded enough funding that covers tuition and accommodation. In addition, students may be awarded Teaching Assistantships or Research Assistantship positions, which are remunerated on bi-weekly basis. Finally, there are bursaries, research fellowships and other external scholarships that are available in the department and faculty for students to apply for. Overall, there is enough funding for the program for the entire duration.
Admission requirements for the Sociology Scholarships at University of Saskatchewan
- Language Proficiency Requirements: Proof of English proficiency may be required for international applicants and for applicants whose first language is not English
- A cumulative weighted average of at least a 70% (USask grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (i.e. 60 credit units)
- A four-year honours degree, or equivalent, from a recognized college or university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study
- The expected length of the MA program is 2 years
- Language Proficiency Requirements: Proof of English proficiency may be required for international applicants and for applicants whose first language is not English
- Master’s degree, or equivalent, from a recognized university in a relevant academic discipline
- A cumulative weighted average of at least a 75% (USask grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (i.e. coursework required in master’s program)
- The expected length of the PhD program is 4 years

2. During the application, applicants will be asked for:
- Personal information such as your name, address, etc.
- Contact information of your three referees
- For your letters of recommendation, two of your referees must be academic contacts, and the third may be academic or professional
- Complete academic history from all previous post-secondary institutions
3. At the end of the application, applicants will need to pay a non-refundable $120 application fee. The application will not be processed until payment is received.
