Political Science Scholarship at University of South Florida
The University of South Florida’s Master of Arts in political science program allows students to investigate and evaluate politics on a variety of local, national, and global issues and themes. It allows students to gain sophisticated theoretical and methodological knowledge of the political science field and to specialize in areas such as the changing dynamics of global and state institutions, the legitimacy of international organizations, the politics of human rights, social and political movements, and the international political economy, thanks to its rigorous focus on theory and methods. Students learn to use theoretical concepts, ideas, and policies to bridge the many gaps between theory and practice through a well-balanced curriculum. Thus, in both the public and commercial sectors, a cutting-edge grasp of politics is a necessary element for success. The master’s degree in political science equips students with the research, analytical, and theoretical skills needed to pursue careers in government, business, and education, as well as doctorate studies in political science and international relations.

Scholarship for the Political Science Program
Funding and Scholarship are available on competitive basis, and successful candidates are automatically considered for the funding. Students who are financially supported will get a graduate assistantship that includes a stipend for the academic year (9 months), a tuition waiver (excluding school fees), and the option of health insurance that is largely paid for by the department (the student only pays a small amount towards insurance).
The graduate assistantship is contingent on making good academic progress each year. Each graduate assistantship needs 20 hours of labor per week, which means the student will be aiding department instructors with their teaching and class preparations. Upon permission, the department will additionally sponsor conference travel or the presenting of research at conferences. PLEASE NOTE: Even if the TOEFL has been waived for admission to a graduate school, international students whose native language is not English must demonstrate competency in spoken English to be eligible for a graduate assistantship. Admission Requirements for the Political Science Scholarship at University of South Florida
- The equivalent bachelors and/or graduate degrees from a foreign institution. Bachelor’s degrees from institutions in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) are considered equivalent based on the Bologna Accord. For applicants with a 3-year bachelor’s degree with less than 120 hours, from Non-Bologna Accord Institutions, a transcript evaluation from a NACES member is required to confirm equivalency.
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) in one of the following ways:
- All completed undergraduate coursework
- All completed graduate coursework
- Applicants from countries where English is not the official language, and who have not earned at least a bachelor’s degree in the U.S., must also demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Minimum test scores required to determine proficiency are:
- IELTS – 6.5
- PTE-A – 53
- TOEFL (iBT – 79; PBT – 550)
- GRE Verbal – 153
- Duolingo – 105
- The TOEFL/IELTS requirement may be waived if the applicant has successfully met another requirement of proof of English proficiency as outlined in the USF academic catalog.

A verified English translation must accompany any documents or transcripts that are not in English. Course-by-course assessments are strongly encouraged, and in certain programs, they are obligatory.
Please submit any test scores that your program requires (GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, etc.). The testing agency must request and provide scores directly to USF.
