The Master in Economics at the University of Cologne offers a research-oriented study programme with courses from a wide range of economic areas. As a student, you are largely free to choose the subjects you intend to concentrate on, and you can opt to focus on different areas within and between fields. The main topics are:

Does the University of Cologne charge tuition fees?

The University of Cologne does not charge any tuition fees. This means the Political science program is 100% free, no charges.

According to the 21st Social Survey of the “Deutsches Studentenwerk” (2017) the cost of living for a student in Cologne are at least €832.00 per month.

International students from non-EU/EEA countries can work up to 120 full days (4-8 hours per day) or 240 half days (1-4 hours per day) per year. This regulation also applies for paid and unpaid internships! A job as a student assistant at a university is permitted, so a student assistant is allowed to work more. If you have a job which exceeds the regulation of 120/240 days (e.g. full-time internship of at least six months) you have to apply for a permit at the Foreigners Registration Office.

How to Apply for the MSc Economics Program at University of Cologne: Study in Germany For Free

  • Create an online account with Uni-assist e.V. Uni-assist evaluates master applications for the University of Cologne from applicants who have obtained a foreign university degree.
  • Submit all required documents via Uni-assist for a preliminary verification of documents after paying the application fees.
  • Request a preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist. Processing time 4 6 weeks. Please apply for the VPD as early as possible before the application deadline at the University of Cologne.
  • Apply via the application portal of the University of Cologne. Note: The application via the online portal at uni-assist is not yet an application to the UoC. The application takes place via the application portal of the UoC Klips 2.0.
  • Once the application is submitted via the UoC application portal, you will now await a review and decision about your application
  • Submit application before the deadline: From April until 15 June, you can apply online via the campus management system KLIPS.
