The University of British Columbia (UBC), Okanagan Campus, Canada is offering scholarships for both Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics. The program is fully funded for its defined length, and is designed to provide financial support for strong candidates who are going to pursue the Master of Science degree and PhD in Computer Science at the institutions.

Funding and scholarships for the Mathematics program at UBC:

MSc: $17,000 – $22,000 per year for 2 years

PhD: $19,000 – $24,000 per year for 4 years

Scholarships in Mathematics for International Students, UBC Canada

The mathematics graduate program at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus in Kelowna, BC, offers tier-one research-based degrees to students in a collegial, close-knit setting.

The dynamic faculty and students are engaged in a variety of research projects, many in collaboration with partners in government, non-profit agencies, and industry.

The research-based MSc and PhD degrees in mathematics provide students with theoretical, practical, and analytical expertise, as well as experience in the application of scientific results to real-world problems.

Program Description 

Master of Science – The MSc program offers two options for graduate students; a Thesis Option focused on conducting research in Computer Science; and a Project Option that involves completing a major project. The expected duration of the program is 2 years full-time.

Doctor of Philosophy – The PhD program in Computer Science offers a 4 years full-time degree that involves coursework and dissertation.

  • January 2023 Admission – June 1, 2022 

Tuition for International Students

  • MSc: $8,776.74 (per year)
  • PhD: $8,776.74 (per year)

Funding &Scholarship Opportunities and Eligibility

Graduate student stipends are funded through a combination of internal and external funding awards, Teaching Assistantships and Research Assistantships. Scholarships and funding are awarded automatically to successful candidates.


  • MSc: $17,000 – $22,000 per year for 2 years
  • PhD: $19,000 – $24,000 per year for 4 years

Successful applicants will be automatically considered for the Scholarships.

Admission Requirements for Scholarship in Mathematics for International Students


MSc Requirements: an academic equivalent of four years undergraduate full-time studies in Computer or related field (minimum of B+ or 76% in last 2 years) in an appropriate area of study. An English proficiency test if English is not the primary medium of instruction from previous studies. A significant formal training and relevant professional experience


PhD applicants are expected to:

  • hold the academic equivalent of a two-year master’s degree from UBC in mathematics or a related field, with a B+ (76%) average or better,
  • demonstrate clear evidence of research ability or potential
  • An English proficiency test if English is not the primary medium of instruction from previous studies.

  • Supporting Documents: Prospective applicants must prepare their documents such as academic transcripts and diplomas, academic references, resume and statement of purpose. Check the Required documents for graduate school applications:

A complete application package will contain:

  • Online application and application fee
  • Unofficial transcripts for all post-secondary institutions attended are required for the application package. However, if admitted, the student must submit official transcripts to the College of Graduate Studies
  • English language test (for non-native speakers of English)
  • CV or resumé
  • Three reference forms or letters
